Physics,Mathematics Preparation : Advice From IIT JEE 2017 Topper
Physics
Physics is an interesting as well as tough subject for JEE.
Basically, you need to have clear concepts. When you see a problem you must know which formulae to apply and which not to. I would say reading books helps. Also solve a good number of questions which covers all types of problems.
Must do's are NCERT, HC Verma, previous years' papers and a good objective question bank(like DC Pandey Practice problems book, or MCQ by D Mukherjee or a good coaching material).
You can also use books like Irodov, Resnick Halliday(I used Krane Edition), Krotov, Olympiad papers, etc. However these are not really necessary but develop good grip, and are useful for Olympiads.
Mathematics
Many students have problem in solving Mathematics questions. There is just one solution to this problem: practice.
When you study a topic in mathematics, first study the theory of a small section, like study summation of AP formula and derivation, then solve a few formula based questions to learn it. Then go for tough questions.
When you see a question, first try to figure out the possible approaches. E.g. if you see iota then surely it's from complex number. Now think of the list of possible formula.
One among them is to be used. Try to remember a previous problem similar to the current one. It will help. Now just calculation is left.

Increase speed by solving more and more problems. It would develop more ideas and increase marks and knowledge. When stuck at a problem, first complete other works and then come to it. Use whatever idea comes to your mind to solve the problem, one of them would work.
Books include: Arihant skills in mathematics, A Das Gupta, previous papers, etc. Coaching study material is also very good.
BOOKS
Books which are required in general for both studying theory and concepts. I will mention good books for objective practice which can be used for additional practice.
The best option is to use a good coaching material. Then you can go for following books.
Physics- MCQ by D Mukherjee, DC Pandey problems book.
Mathematics- A Das Gupta may be used but here only coaching material works if you want a good collection of objective problems.
All the best!
